The fifth version, Train Sim World: Gold Edition, was released on 2 September 2019. It has two routes, the Southwest Chief route from Fort Worth, Texas to Ogden, Utah that goes through the Rocky Mountains, and the 1,300 mile Oregon Coast route (Portland to Prineville). This version includes the Northwest Corridor route add-on that was released in September 2018, although it is only available on the Microsoft Windows version.

In May 2019, Dovetail Games released a special update for Train Sim World, containing a free route from North American Railfan magazine, which was temporarily withdrawn for a new route. It was later released in the ISF and not included in the Preserved Collection.

Additional Scenario Files (SDF) were also released for some of the routes. One, for the Great Western Express, contained a route that connects London Paddington to Faro to Seville, and can be used to connect from the International Scenario Files (ISF) to the rest of the routes.

The fifth version, Train Sim World 2020, is available for Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, featuring four routes, as well as three premium routes add-ons. The release date was delayed from the original planned 6 August due to the postponement of the release of Train Sim World 2020.

Two of the premium route add-ons, London Overground and Northwestern Electric, were released on 31 March, with the other premium routes, the Cheshire Lines, East Coastway, and Great Western, being released on 6 April. The London Overground route included a pair of Class 214 (British Rail Class D95) locomotives, and the Northwestern Electric route included two Class 508 (British Rail Class D50) locomotives.

The two free DLC routes, Great Western Express and Northern Trans-Pennine, became available on 31 January, with the other two DLC routes, the Long Island Rail Road and the Main-Spessart Bahn, being added on 3 February. The Long Island Rail Road route included trains built by GP30, GP32, GP36, GP40, GP40-2, GP42, GP43, GP44, GP45, and GP45-2 locos. The Main-Spessart Bahn route included Deutsche Bahn A4M-class, A4M/4, A4M/10, A4M/17, A4M/21, A4M/45, and A4M/46 locos. The Sand Patch Grade route included four Giesebrecht gauge trains for Microsoft Windows, a pair of BHPS/GAEC/CAMD Class 6000/6201 locomotives. A total of nine new routes, four for each of the three DLCs, were released on 26 March. 827ec27edc
