Professional Referals
Carbrook Animal Assisted Learning Centre is currently accepting Professional Referrals for students to be considered for our waitpool.
All places for commencement in the 2026 school year are currently filled. However, as student circumstances can change, places may become available from time to time. When this occurs, Professional Referrals in the waitpool are reviewed by the school leadership panel.
If a student is shortlisted, a member of our team will contact parents, guardians, or carers directly.
Please note that we are unable to offer individual site visits. Prospective students, families, guardians, and other stakeholders are encouraged to look on our website for information about the next scheduled annual Carbrook Centre Open Day.
Steps

-
Identify a suitable professional
Identify a professional who knows the student well, such as a teacher, therapist, psychologist, or medical professional. This person should be able to comment on the student’s learning needs, strengths, and required adjustments. -
Confirm current or previous school supports
Request information from the student’s current or previous school about the level of NCCD support provided. This should include the category of adjustment and the types of supports currently or previously in place. -
Complete the Professional Referral Form
Provide the identified professional with the relevant NCCD information and ask them to complete the Professional Referral Form (link below).

Please note:
Offer of enrolment at Carbrook Centre is determined through a professional referral and waitpool process. When a place becomes available, applications may be shortlisted by a school panel based on specific selection criteria. These may include long-term disengagement from schooling, complex educational and wellbeing needs, and a demonstrated interest in animal-assisted learning. Interest in horses and dogs may be considered. Priority may also be given to students residing within the Logan City area. Enrolments are not offered solely on the date an application is received.
